Simultaneous Atom Interferometers

چکیده
We demonstrate phase lock of two > 1.6W Titanium:sapphire lasers with a phase noise of -138 dBc/Hz at 1MHz from the carrier, using an intra-cavity electro-optic phase modulator. The residual phase variance is 2.5 × 10 rad integrated from 1Hz to 10 kHz. Instantaneous offset frequency steps of up to 4MHz are achieved within 200 ns. Simultaneous atom interferometers can make full use of this ultra-low phase noise in differential measurements by suppressing common influences from vibration of optics.

102ℏk large area atom interferometers.
We demonstrate atom interferometers utilizing a novel beam splitter based on sequential multiphoton Bragg diffractions. With this sequential Bragg large momentum transfer (SB-LMT) beam splitter, we achieve high contrast atom interferometers with momentum splittings of up to 102 photon recoil momenta (102ℏk). To our knowledge, this is the highest momentum splitting achieved in any atom interfero...

Bloch oscillations (i.e., coherent acceleration of matter waves by an optical lattice) and Bragg diffraction are integrated into light-pulse atom interferometers with large momentum splitting between the interferometer arms, and hence enhanced sensitivity. Simultaneous acceleration of both arms in the same internal states suppresses systematic effects, and simultaneously running a pair of inter...
متن کاملComparative Sensitivities of Gravitational Wave Detectors based on Atom Interferometers and Light Interferometers
iNe consider a class of proposed gravitational wave detectors based on multiple atomic interferometers separated by large baselines and referenced by common laser systems. We compute the sensitivity limits of these detectors due to intrinsic phase noise of the light sources, non-inertial motion of the light sources, and atomic shot noise and compare them to sensitivity limits for traditional li...
متن کاملPhase shifts due to atom-surface interaction
Several atom optics experiments have studied how atom-surface interactions affect the propagation of atom waves. However, none of these experiments directly measure the phase shift of atom waves due to interaction with a surface. For example, experiments with atoms transmitted through a cavity [1, 2], atoms diffracted from a material grating [3–6], atoms reflecting from surfaces [7– 10], atoms ...
متن کاملUltra-high Sensitivity Accelerometers and Gyroscopes Using Neutral Atom Matter-wave Interferometry*
This paper shows that matter-wave interferometers employing low-velocity neutral atoms can be used as inertial sensors with sensitivities that exceed those of conventional mechanical sensors and multiple circuit optical interferometers by many powers of ten. The energy and mass dependence of the phase shifts that are due to rotation and acceleration are different. Thus a pair of interferometers...
